Let Dog-Safety.Net be your resource for dog bite prevention information. This site offers tips, tricks, links & photos. All of this is done with the goal of encouraging you to take an active role in dog bite prevention. Some of this advice comes from us (Ron & Jen Fone) and our 20+ years experience teaching dog bite prevention, using the AKC Canine Ambassador program & countless other resources to build our program.

See AKC's Sept 2003 Public Education Newsletter for our Community Achievement Award for presenting Dog Bite Prevention training to all ages (PDF file).

No one is ever too young to learn something about dog safety. A year old child can be taught to properly pet a dog. 2 & 3 year olds easily learn to ask if they can pet a dog & learn the proper way to do so. 4 years old & up can learn the basics:

  • NEVER pet a stray dog.
  • ALWAYS ask if you can pet someone else's dog.
  • NEVER pet a dog who is eating.
  • NEVER run from a dog.

There are many more Do's & Don'ts which you will find throughout this site that can be taught to elementary school aged children. Don't fret. There will be information to be shared with older children, but you will have to learn it and extract what you feel is going to captivate your group.

So, WELCOME. Come in and browse the site. Take what you need & leave the rest.
